Please download the current version of HijackThis from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

  • Double click and run the installer.
  • It will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\hijackthis.exe
  • After installing, you should get the user agreement, press accept and Hijack This will run.
  • Select Do a system scan and save a log file. This will open a notepad file of everything Hijack This found, copy and paste it back here.

When I try to run HijackThis I get a response saying the system admin is preventing it from installing.

Hello.

I see that you are running Limewire.
P2P(Peer to peer) applications are designed to help you easily share and distribute files between you and a group of people. But they can also be used to distribute malware, and thus are not considered safe.
The removal of these programs is optional, but highly recommended.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs.

    µTorrent
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
    Java(TM) 6 Update 15
    Java(TM) 6 Update 2
    Java(TM) 6 Update 3
    Java(TM) 6 Update 5
    Java(TM) 6 Update 7
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1
    LimeWire 5.4.6
    Viewpoint Media Player

  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u17-windows-i586.exe that you downloaded to install the newest version.

How is the machine running now?

When I am in safe mode i can dl all the files but it wont let me install because of the system admin is preventing it from installing. When i get out of safe mode I am unable to dl or execute the program. What should i do?

Is the user account your own limited or administrator?

I wonder if Mcafee is conflicting, but don't wanna have to you uninstall it in case you can't re-install another AV.

Lets see what this says.

Download the GMER rootkit scan from here: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

  1. Unzip it and start GMER.
  2. Click the >>> tab and then click the Scan button.
  3. Once done, click the Copy button.
  4. This will copy the results to your clipboard.
  5. Paste the results in your next reply.
Note:
If you're having problems with running GMER.exe, try it in safe mode. This tools works in safe mode.
You can also try renaming it since some malware blocks GMER.

Just curious how long should this program be scanning. Think it has been going for almost 3 hrs now.

GMER can take a long time if you have a lot of files on your machine, lets try this instead.

Please close all anti virus, anti malware and any other open programs/windows so they do not interfere with the running of RootRepeal.

  • Please download RootRepeal.zip from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].
  • Extract the program file to your Desktop.
  • Run the program RootRepeal.exe and go to the Report tab and click on the Scan button.

  • Select ALL of the checkboxes and then click OK and it will start scanning your system.

  • If you have multiple drives you only need to check the C: drive or the one Windows is installed on.
  • When done, click on Save Report
  • Save it to the Desktop.
  • Please copy/paste the contents of the report in your next reply.
