Trojan horse vundo.JI ?

Post by Saeiane on Fri Dec 18, 2009 4:12 am

Hi guys, I'm back again... AVG just found four viruses entitled "Trojan horse vundo.JI" in the file(s) "iTunes801Setup.exe"
the other three are in "iTunes801Setup.exe:\iTunes.msi" "iTunes801Setup.exe:\iTunes.msi\iTunes.cab" "iTunes801Setup.exe:\iTunes.msi\iTunes.cab\iTunesHelper.exe" I stopped the scan early (it was slowing my computer down) and that's when I noticed the infections, so, I'm not sure if there is more or not.
viruses (especially trojans) make me really nervous, but you guys were able to help me last time so I figured I'd see what's what.

Nothing has happened so far, but, I'd rather see what I can do about it before something bad happens.

Please download the current version of HijackThis from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

  • Double click and run the installer.
  • It will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\hijackthis.exe
  • After installing, you should get the user agreement, press accept and Hijack This will run.
  • Select Do a system scan and save a log file. This will open a notepad file of everything Hijack This found, copy and paste it back here.

  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)

ok... I tried to update the version of Malwarebytes I currently have, but it said it wasn't able to, something about not having permissions. Then it crashed and AVG's Resident Shield detected mbam-setup.exe as a trojan horse dropper agent.

Should I just use the download link provided here (After uninstalling my current version of Malwarebytes) or try again? (I hit "ignore" for the AVG warning, by the way)

God AVG is sucking recently. Anyway, that Vundo.JI is a false positive. Update your AVG database, then hopefully this should be fine.

Any other problems?

Yeah, a little more than my vaccume cleaner, heh. The update finished, I'll do a quick scan with AVG, Malwarebytes (after trying to update again) and Spybot S&D.

Malwarebytes actually found something.

A temp file, harmless really. No launching point and as long as you don't run it, it's a dud.

So should I just leave it be or remove it? I'm not gonna run an AVG scan because it takes too long, and Malwarebytes is just as good at getting anything it picks up, and Spybot gets all the same cookies it picks up. Yknow? lol

Gotcha. Well, everything seems in order. Is that all? It was just a false alarm?

Thanks for your help at any rate.
