possible infection

Post by Fire-song on Tue Dec 08, 2009 1:58 pm

Hi. I'm not sure if I have some kind of spyware or malware on my computer. It's running slower than normal and my firefox doesn't want to load pages all the time. I've run all my scans and nothing has been found by any of them. Also, I tried to download hijack this, but it can up with a page that said the file I requested is not available.

Hello.

Remove the Proxy setting in Internet Explorer and/or in FireFox.

    In Internet Explorer
  1. Tools Menu -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab ->Lan Settings > uncheck "use a proxy server" or reconfigure the Proxy server again in case you have set it previously.

    In Firefox
  1. Tools Menu -> Options... -> Advanced Tab -> Network Tab -> "Settings" under Connection > Choose "No Proxy"
  2. Click the apply button and restart that computer in normal mode.

  • Open HijackThis
  • Choose "Do a system scan only"
  • Check the boxes in front of these lines:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=localhost:7070
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.local;
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - d51d388b-f5dc-471a-a1ce-5e2d671091c0} - (no file)
    O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present

  • Press "Fix Checked"
  • Close Hijack This.

Please download and run this tool.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Post the contents of the MBAM Log.

Re: possible infection

Post by Fire-song on Wed Dec 09, 2009 1:09 am

My computer is running faster, but my firefox still doesn't want to load pages like it should. I click to go to a page and it will just sit there and not load. So I have to refresh once or sometimes a few times to get the page to come up. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling firefox but that didn't seem to fix the problem.

I see you have Zonealarm/Spybots TeaTimer running, disable them and make sure they aren't interfering when your browsing.

I changed my firewall from zonealarm to sygate personal firewall. Things seem to be running better now.
