Solved Flash player not working after virus removal

Post by lynmak on 24th November 2009, 8:25 am

I used instructions on this site to remove banker Fox and (i think) the win32nugel viruses and since then, my Flash Player does not work when I try to watch a you tube video, or enter a website that requires it to play an intro, etc...

On youtube, it says to turn on javascript or to download the latest flashplayer. I have gone into "tools" on the internet browser > internet options >security > custom > active scripting > disabled it first and then "enabled" it later.....and I have also tried downloading the latest flash but both those attmepts did nothing.

I am totally computer illiterate and it was a miracle I understood the instructions to remove those viruses previously.

Please advise in easily understandable language. Thanks a lot.

ps. Recently someone posted this thread: Dangerous "unpatchable" flaw discovered in Adobe Flash. and I wonder if this is my problem?

Solved Re: Flash player not working after virus removal

Try these solutions:

1. Mouse over the flash object. Right Click>settings
Uncheck the box which states 'enable hardware aceleration'

2. If you are using IE, Go to the menu bar. Tools>Internet Options>click the security tab>Click 'reset all zones to default level' button

3. If the above solutions do not work for you, Go to the menu bar. Tools>Internet Options>click the advanced tab>Find the section Reset Internet Explorer settings.>Click the reset button.

Hope these solutions will work for you.

Hi Lance,

your instructions worked, although I didn't complete #1. I think it was #3 that did it.

Thanks very much for your help!

I'm glad you guys leave these posted. Three years after this fix was posted, I used it. You saved me from hours [days?] of not having my computer accessible, couldn't get my email, [Comcast must use flash to access it]. This isn't the first time you guys have helped me, so I purchased a copy of the tips book! This site is a great source for those of us who may be semi literate, but don't do I.T. as a living!!!
