Security warning: wuauclt.exe is infected

Post by sprucemoose on Sun Nov 22, 2009 2:27 am

Hello

My issue is very similar as what I read here on your site:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I am tempted to follow those instructions but I see that we shouldn't do that.

Anti virus system pro wants to run.

And Security Warning
"application cannot be executed. The filerundll32.exe (wuauclt.exe also sometimes) is infected. Do you want to activate antivirus software now?'" constantly pops up. Maki ng my PC useless.

What do I do please? I have XP Pro and AVG free.

Thank you.

Please download the current version of HijackThis from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

  • Double click and run the installer.
  • It will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\hijackthis.exe
  • After installing, you should get the user agreement, press accept and Hijack This will run.
  • Select Do a system scan and save a log file. This will open a notepad file of everything Hijack This found, copy and paste it back here.

Thanks for your response.

Unfortunately, I'm not able to "do a system scan and save log file" because it only comes up for a millisecond before it is blown away by this virus. I constantly try and occasionally get a dummy 1kb file but when I open it there is nothing there.

Also, when I try to run HJTInstall, A Security Warning pops up "Application cannot be executed. The file hjtinstall.exe is infected. Do you want to activate your anti virus software now?"

arg!
