Hello,

Open CMD, Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults by typing: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults by typing: netsh int ip reset reset.log

Restart your PC.

If it doesn't work, download Winsock XP Fix from here, save it to your Desktop.
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html

Double click on the exe on your Desktop.
Press the "Fix" button, then restart again.

See if you can connect now.

Seems like your modem is doing fine. Do you have a router?

If you have both of them, or just a modem - please do the following:

Unplug them, and leave them unplugged for 30 seconds. Then, plug them back in at the same time, and wait three minutes.

Then, test the connection. Did it work?

yes i have a router.. and yes i just turned it off the back on.. still nothing.

one thing that i noticed that is different is that when i view my network connections every connection that say "connected" also say "firewalled" behind the word "connected" i dont ever remember seeing "firewalled" there..

also, local area nework 1 and 2 say "network cable unplugged" but i dont think that ever made a difference.

thanks for your help

Disable Internet Connection Firewall (ICF)

1. Click Start button, select Control Panel, or select Settings then Control Panel.
2. In Control Panel, double-click Networking and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.
3. Right-click the connection on which you would like to disable ICF, and then click Properties.
4. On the Advanced tab, click the box to clear the option to Protect my computer or network.
5. Close the properties window by clicking OK.

Good?
