Solved External Hard Drive Recs

Post by Glacon on 9th November 2009, 3:47 am

I was just wondering if there were any brands of external hard drives you would recommend or any brands that you would avoid? Is there anything in general to watch for when getting an external hard drive? Thank you.

Hello,

What type of external hard drive are you getting? USB or AC powered?

Pretty much an AC powered external hardware brand will do, e.g. Seagate.

USB powered, you can check out Infinitec, which is what I use. So far no problems with it.

I was planning on another AC powered just for backup purposes. I have an AC powered Maxtor which has been running without issue so far. I'm a little concerned with overheating on the USB powered ones since the ones I've seen seem to run hot. Thank you for the advice.

Hello,

It's normal for these devices to feel hot. I'm guessing your AC powered Maxtor has a casing? As long as the casing has a ventilation fan, it's fine.
