Solved Locating system configuration

Post by QuestionBot on 12th May 2008, 3:06 am

I tried to load the tool that enables me to edit my startup settings. I type CONFIG in the Run Command box but then nothing happens; I just get the egg timer next to the cursor for one second, then nothing. Can you please help me to either reinstall this file or fix it?

The command you need to type is actually MSCONFIG.EXE, or alternatively you can find the utility by clicking the Tools link on the front of the Help and Support Centre. If it still doesn’t load, check whether the file has been deleted by accident. It should be in the C:\WINDOWS\ PCHEALTH \HELPCTR\Binaries folder. If not, you can get a copy from the I386 folder on your Windows XP CD. Use the EXPAND command to copy and expand the compressed file – use the -R flag to rename it to MSCONFIG.EXE and put it in the correct directory.
