Desktop icons disappear

Post by kingfisher on Tue Oct 06, 2009 10:51 pm

This site is great. I have been following it for a few days, now I have a problem. When I start up my computer it boots up fine. Everything (Icons) on the desktop show up, but the wall paper is missing. After it completes the load the Icons disappear. I have the taskbar and can click on the "show desktop" it will appear. Then as soon I click on anything it disappears again. It maybe a setting but why do I continue to loose the icons and the wallpaper? What should I do to correct it?

Do you have a customization pack for the Desktop?

Not sure....how do I check?
In my documents, for some reason I show a folder labled shortcut to my desktop with all of the saved icons that should be seen.

I have kids on this laptop so I have no idea what they could have done.

Thanks

Hi

Please download CCleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com

Install the program.

Then, start CCleaner, from the Desktop icon or Start menu.

Then, while in CCleaner, press the Tools button on the left. Then, let the Uninstall List load. When loaded, click the Save to text file button on the bottom right.

Find a place to save the file. Then, copy the contents of the file, and paste it in to your next reply.

DMJ
I noticed the file Security tool (which I have been trying to remove) started up in my taskbar, the icons would disappear in start up. Not sure if they are linked? So I am trying to delete this crap. I found a topic of removal for the product. You listed a combo fix so I downloaded that and ran it. My desk tops have now appeared. That problem now seems to be fȋxed. I still have to work on removing security tool. It still shows as a file. Each time I reboot I can do a search and find it, delete but it returns like a bad penny.

What I have noticed since I ran the combo fix. My computer operators much slower. I need to see if something is running now that should not be?

I also get small popup windows on some websites that state line error.

Hi

Looking at the malware topics, then doing the fixes yourself is dangerous. However, go ahead and navigate to C:\ComboFix.txt and please upload the results from that, along with the CCleaner Uninstall List.

The icons are disappearing again. The computer is running pretty good right now. I will run the combo fix again and upload the results.

All attempts to rid the computer of Security tool have failed so far. I won't make any more attemps until post results from the combofix

Thanks for the help

Bob
