Try the ISO version please, it is the best to burn to CD.

Unfortunately no. I tried to boot with the burned disc and the system went to blue screen with a message to restart if it was the first time I'd seen the message and to restart in safe mode etc etc. It also had a stop message at the bottom but I didn t write it down. Sorry. Unfortunately i cannot even boot in safe mode now, the warning just keeps coming up so i am now using my work computer which has a different e-mail attached so if you could reply to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] until we can get my system going again. Thanks !!!

Please get Ubuntu Linux from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

then use this tutorial to burn it:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

==

When you are able to boot in to Ubuntu, reply back here, and I can help you rescue your files, and do a virus scan for the other operating system.
This is a safe, easier process if a rescue disk does not work.

Has Ubuntu been fully installed, you are able to boot in to it?

While on Ubuntu, please download [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and install it.

When you have it installed, please let me know so we can continue the next step.

Just out of curiosity, when I installed ubuntu,I was not supposed to install it over windows was I? I chose the option, most continuous free space or something to that effect, now it says I dont have enough space to download avast.

No. It was to be merged in to a partition you would have created before installing it.

It would look like

Windows | Unallocated

==

We will now need to look at the partition editor.

At the beginning, upon boot, do you see something like this:

If so, can you choose Windows and boot in to it?

I tried to use the windows disc but it locks up when it gets to the place where it asks you to install, recovery panel ,or exit. Also when I try to boot with anything other than the ubuntu disc i get this message

GRUB loading
error: no such partition
grub rescue>
It is asking for a cmmand I assume but I dont know what to do.

It is time to do a hard drive erase, which will get rid of everything, unfortunately: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] (USB Flash & Floppy)

Works on a floppy disk and flash drive. Let me know when you have this ready. Then, we can continue with the operation.

==

Right now, it seems the blue screen of death is about hardware corruption, in which case the setup for Windows will fail, because some hardware on your computer may no longer function. If that is the case, I have a diagnostics kit that I know of that can be used to figure out what hardware is plaguing the setup of Windows.

Sorry Ive been out of touch. Blew my motor in my truck so I took some time off to fix it. I dont know if it makes any difference, but i can access my windows files thru ubuntu, as long as the ubuntu disc is in. Can we fix anything this way or should i just save the things I want then proceed with the killdisk download?

I am sorry. I am missing the flash drive instructions I had. Let me think

OK.

  1. Download [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to burn CD.
  2. This downloads an ISO IMAGE (not a regular file) that needs to be burned to the CD AS AN IMAGE (not as an added file).
  3. Use the following ISO burner: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

After using kiilldisc i tried twice to reinstall windows. It loads up but looks like its always in safe mode. When I adjust properties etc it does not make things smaller. Also it cannot find my internet connection, and I have no sound. I am currently using ubuntu again. I installed it but get the same grub error as before so im running it from the boot disc. I am very confused at this point.

Windows did reinstall?

If so, device drivers will have to be obtained for some drivers.

Yes windows did install. But I cannot get on te internet in windows. It says i have no internet connection or something to that effect. Thats why I'm using ubuntu. It still connects, though i have to run it with the disc in.

I reinstalled windows yet again. i can access the internet now but all the icons tool bars etc are still way too big. I cannot seem to adjust my screen resolution, and trying properties changes nothing. Any suggestions?
