Solved Customised music fold & read only problem

Post by JeremyP99 on Thu Sep 24, 2009 10:41 am

Hello; new here, fairly experience PC user and Windows user since 3.1

I'm running Windows 7 RC1. Generally well satisfied with it -but have suddenly got a very annoying problem.

I have a huge music library which I am slowly digitising. Also download a lot of - kosher - live music. Grateful Dead, and such like, who authorise downloading of their shows.

I have a folder for tagging and sorting these out, before they go into the library. When I created it, I customised it and subfolders as Music folders - this means that many of the tags are shows. I use Tag&Rename to tag the shows/discs, and often will tag a set of shows at the same time.

As of this morning, all folders have become read only. I can therefore only access for update, the files within A single folder. Whilst this is not per se a show stopper. it makes the whole process VERY laborious. I have tried resetting read only, tried resetting the attribute from a command prompt, tried a registry fix from the Microsoft site, all to no avail.

So I am looking to find out

a) Why this happened after a few months of this not being the case
b) How to fix it

Thanks, and hello!

Hello,

Take a look here on how to unset the Read Only folder attribute:

http://www.geekpolice.net/windows-7-tutorials-f36/how-to-set-or-unset-the-read-only-folder-attribute-in-windows-7-t4010.htm

Let me know if it works.
