Solved cd/dvdw not working.

Post by acurbelo on 19th September 2009, 8:10 am

When I put a cd or dvd in it will not do anything. Sometimes you can hear it spin but then it stops. In my divice manager it shows up as working properly. It's a TSSTCORP cd/dvdw TS-H653L. I also tried updating driver but it's asking for a cd and i don't have any for my computer. I have Windox XP. thanks

Hi

Please download the latest version of Kaspersky GetSystemInfo (GSI) from here and save it to your Desktop.
  • Please close all other applications running on your system.
  • Please double click GetSystemInfo.exe to open it.
  • Click the Settings button.
  • Set it to Maximum
  • IMPORTANT! Then please click Customize - choose Driver / Ports tab and
  • Uncheck Scan Ports.
  • Click Create Report to run it.
  • It will create a zip folder called GetSystemInfo_XXXXXXXXXXXXXX.zip on your Desktop. Please upload the folder to Kaspersky GSI Parser and click the Submit button.

Please copy and paste the url of the GSI Parser report (not the log) in your next reply.

Please download this file: http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9645377 and then run it.

Follow any prompts. Then, restart your computer. See if the drive is fixed.

Please let me know if this fixes the problem. If not, I have more steps, that we can try.

Hi

Please create a Restore Point. Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.
Give it a name like cd fix and then let it set the Restore Point.

Then, please do the following:

Copy the following in to Notepad:
Code:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoCDBurning"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
"AllocateCDRoms"="0"
"AllocateFloppies"="0"
"AllocateDASD"="0"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"UpperFilters"=-
"LowerFilters"=-

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdr4_2K]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdralw2k]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdudf]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UdfReadr]

Click File > Save as
Choose Save as type: All Files
Save the file to your Desktop as fixdrive.reg
Exit Notepad and double click on the file to run it. Choose Yes/Confirm any prompts.

Please reboot for changes to take effect.

Is the drive operational again?

Hi

Please follow this tutorial on running System File Checker: http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

After you have completed SFC, then please do the following:
Please navigate to this webpage: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313222 and see the section "Fix it for me" and click the Microsoft Fix-It button. This will download a fix utility to repair the security settings on your computer, due to damages of malware or other harmful system changes. Install the file after download.

Hi

Please follow this tutorial on running System File Checker: http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

Ok I went here and follwed the instructions. At the end it asked me to insert the Xp cd2. Which I dont have and my cd Rom is not working anyways. I canceled out because i could not go any further.

Install the file after download

I went onto this website and followed your difection. A black box came on that said on top system32/secedit.exe. After it was done it went away. I tried to run a CD and still nothing.[ Sad tearing

Hi

Download CDgone to your desktop.

Right click and choose Extract All,
open folder and double click on cdgone.reg file

Do Not Click on EditReg.reg file

Restart your PC

Did that work?

==

If not, please uninstall the device drivers for the cd drive, and reboot the computer. If needed, follow this tutorial: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314096

Any of these solve the problem? (I have quite a few more steps)

If you uninstall the drive, then reboot your computer, does Windows automatically install a driver, or does it ask for the driver that came with the CD/DVD drive?

I deleted TSSTCORP CD/DVDW TS-H653L,from the device manager
I think that's the drive, yesterday when the guy from microsoft took over my computer. And when I rebooted it it came back. It has never asked me for a cd. Only when I was doing one of the steps you suggested.

Are you saying the Cd drive works, or it is not allowing you to install it?

Hi

It now appears to be an internal problem. I would recommend to have the drive checked out internally, since Windows does not see a problem with it.

Let me know what you decide to do.
