Solved System Security AND Police Pro

Post by LaxRef93 on 9th September 2009, 11:52 pm

Hi.. my wife's XP computer has been hit by both System Security 2009 and Police Pro. It is not letting me run any .exe files, so I am not able to run Maleware Bites program. I can however get on to an IE window. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Solved Re: System Security AND Police Pro

Post by Dr Jay on 10th September 2009, 1:35 am

Hi

Please download ComboFix from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] or [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective
programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link : [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Dr. Jay (DJ)

This virus won't let me run any .exe files, so when I double click on ComboFix.exe, all I get is an error message that says: "Error (and then gives the path)"

Hi

Please rename combofix.exe to cmf.com

Then, try to run it as instructed above.

Thanks.

Solved Re: System Security AND Police Pro

Post by Dr Jay on 10th September 2009, 3:16 pm

Hi

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

3. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

File::
c:\windows\svchasts.exe

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

==

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note)
  • Please save the log to a location you will remember.
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

In your next reply, please include the ComboFix log, and the Malwarebytes log. Also, please tell me how your computer is running.

When I dragged the script onto ComboFix, it says there is an updated version of ComboFix, and asking if I want to install that. Should I?

Hi,
Here are the logs you wanted posted. First one is ComboFix, second one is Malewarebytes. The ComboFix only took like 15-20 minutes this time, so that's good. So far, the computer is running good. Is there anything else you would like me to do to further fix the problem?
Thanks.

Solved Re: System Security AND Police Pro

Hi

Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:
ComboFix /u

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore.

Please download F-Secure's Blacklight from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

  • Save it to your Desktop
  • Double-click blbeta.exe then accept the agreement.
  • click > scan then > next,
  • You'll see a list of all items found.
  • Don't choose for rename yet! I want to see the log first, because legit items can also be present there...
  • There must be also a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers)
  • Post the contents of the log in your next reply.

Also, please tell me how your computer is running.

Hi

Hit next and let the program exit. I do not think that is a full log. Are you sure you got that from the log on the Desktop?

Please re-open Malwarebytes, click the Update tab, and click Check for Updates. Then, click the Scanner tab, select Perform Quick Scan, and press Scan. Post the log in your next reply, and please tell me how your computer is running.

Hi,
I double checked, and that is all that was on the log file on my desktop. However, the link you provided for blacklight only went to an information page. I had to navigate [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to find it. Do you want me to do anything differently with this tool?

What is the next step? Computer seems to be running ok.. some things seem to run a little slow, but not bad.

Here is the log from running Malewarebytes again:

Hi

Download [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] by OldTimer to your Desktop.
  • Close all windows and double click OTL.exe.
  • Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted.
  • It will produce two logs for you, one will pop up - OTL.txt, the other will be saved on your Desktop - Extras.txt. Post both logs in this thread.
  • You may need to use two posts to get it all.

==

Please download SystemLook from one of the links below and save it to your Desktop.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Hi

Not broken from here. Goofy

Try again. You may be blocked to download it.

If you cannot access it, then please do the following:

Please download the current version of HijackThis from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

  • Double click and run the installer.
  • It will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe
  • After installing, you should get the user agreement, press accept and HijackThis will run.
  • Select Do a system scan and save a log file. This will open a notepad file of everything HijackThis found, copy and paste it back here.

Hi

I notice that you have these sites download.windowsupdate.com and foxnews.com in your Trusted Zone. Internet Explorer's security is based upon a set of zones. Each zone has different security in terms of what scripts and applications can be run from a site that is in that zone. There is a security zone called the Trusted Zone. This zone has the lowest security and allows scripts and applications from sites in this zone to run without your knowledge. It is therefore a popular setting for malware sites to use so that future infections can be easily done on your computer without your knowledge as these sites will be in the Trusted Zone.

I strongly recommend remove all entries from the Trusted Zone as they are unnecessary to be there.

To do this, start Internet Explorer > Tools tab > Internet Options (Security tab)

  • On the next page select Save a binary .Run file (Recommended) then click Start full scan at the top.
  • At this time Runscanner.exe may request access to the Internet through your firewall please allow it to do so, it will then run for two or three minutes.
  • On completion it will ask for a location to save the file and a name. It will do this for both the .run file and the log file
  • Call the .run file "Select a name" and save it to your desktop. You will see the .run file on your desktop. Paste the results of that in your next reply.

Hi

Download Security Check by screen317 from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] or [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].
  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

Please post the SystemLook log from earlier, as well.

Solved Re: System Security AND Police Pro

Post by Dr Jay on 15th September 2009, 2:12 am

Hi

Hooray! Your computer is clean.

==

Adobe Acrobat Reader is out of date.

Please download the newest version from here: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

It's important to remove older versions of Acrobat Reader since it does not do so automatically and old versions still leave you vulnerable.
Go to Start > Control Panel > Software and open Add or Remove Programs.
Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Once old versions are gone, please install the newest version.

==

Please read the following information that I have provided, which will help you prevent malicious software in the future. Please keep in mind, malware is a continuous danger on the Internet. It is highly important to stay safe while browsing, to prevent re-infection.

Software recommendations

AntiSpyware

  • [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
SpywareBlaster is a program that prevents spyware from installing on your computer. A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster may be found [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].
  • [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].
Spybot - Search & Destroy is a spyware and adware removal program. It also has realtime protection, TeaTimer to help safeguard your computer against spyware. (The link for Spybot - Search & Destroy contains a tutorial that will help you download, install, and begin using Spybot).

NOTE: Please keep ALL of these programs up-to-date and run them whenever you suspect a problem to prevent malware problems.

Resident Protection help
A number of programs have resident protection and it is a good idea to run the resident protection of one of each type of program to maintain protection. However, it is important to run only one resident program of each type since they can conflict and become less effective. That means only one antivirus, firewall, and scanning anti-spyware program at a time. Passive protectors such as SpywareBlaster can be run with any of them.

Rogue programs help
There are a lot of rogue programs out there that want to scare you into giving them your money and some malware actually claims to be security programs. If you get a popup for a security program that you did not install yourself, do NOT click on it and ask for help immediately. It is very important to run an antivirus and firewall, but you can't always rely on reviews and ads for information. Ask in a security forum that you trust if you are not sure. If you are unsure and looking for anti-spyware programs, you can find out if it is a rogue here:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Securing your computer

  • [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
  • [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites and other bad sites. This prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1, which is your local computer's loopback address, meaning it will be difficult to infect your computer in the future.

Please consider using an alternate browser
Mozilla's Firefox browser is a very good alternative. In addition to being generally more secure than Internet Explorer, it has a very good built-in popup blocker and add-ons, like NoScript, can make it even more secure. Opera is another good option.
