Antivirus System PRO - gone but browsers won't work

I recently got Antivirus System PRO and went through the steps on this site for removing it with Malwarebyte. It worked well and the program and pop-ups are gone, but neither IE or Firefox will connect to the net. Firefox opens a blank page and IE "cannot display the webpage"

Hi

You may have to transfer this from a computer that is connected to the Internet, to the infected computer - then run it.


  1. Please download LSPFix from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].
  2. Run the LSPFix.exe that you have just finished downloading.
  3. Check the I know what I'm doing box.
  4. In the Keep box you should see one or more instances of XXXXX.dll.
  5. Select every instance of XXXXX.dll and move each one to the Remove box by clicking the >> button.
  6. When you are done click Finish>>.

I did that and now IE and Firefox seem to work, but the computer will not connect to a wireless network. I have tried to connect to two different ones. It recognizes the network, but cant acquire the network address. It wont even show the network icons in the system tray until I open the Network Connections window from the start menu.

Please reboot to Safe Mode with Networking (tap the F8 key just before Windows starts to load and select the Safe Mode with Networking option from the menu). See if the connection is operational.

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note)
  • Please save the log to a location you will remember.
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

OK, so I entered safe mode with networking and it still could not connect to a network. I ran MBAM and got the following report:

Hi

From a computer that is connected to the Internet, please download the below tool, and transfer it on to the infected machine. Work in Safe Mode.

ComboFix

Please download ComboFix from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] or [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop


  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective
    programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link : [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.


**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Since you are not connected to the Internet on the infected machine, then the Recovery Console cannot be downloaded and installed. Optionally, before you start the scan, install it from a Windows XP disc.

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
