Blue screen problem

Post by ebubeyah on 25th August 2009, 4:19 pm

I have a consistent problem of blue screen appearing while i am in the middle of very important work on my PC resulting to automatic restart of my system. Sometimes when the blue screen appear it will hang my system leaving me with only option of rebooting my system manually thereby losing my unsaved files. I tried to resolve the problem by turning my automatic updates on as advised by microsoft. After several downloads i constantly receive a warning message from Microsoft which goes like this: "You may be a victim of Software counterfeiting. This copy of windows did not pass genuine Windows validation." This warning can be seen while booting my system and after booting it constantly appear above the status bar on the windows. Neither was the blue screen issue resolved. It kept on appearing even with the automatic update turned on. Please kindly tell me how to stop the blue screen from intefering with my job and how do i resolve this constant warning that kept on appearing on my system.

Whenever you get the message it means you are running a pirated version of Windows, it is strongly advised that you purchase a legal version of Windows XP so you can update critical system files that can prevent you from getting infected in the future:

Please download the current version of HijackThis from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

  • Double click and run the installer.
  • It will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\hijackthis.exe
  • After installing, you should get the user agreement, press accept and Hijack This will run.
  • Select Do a system scan and save a log file. This will open a notepad file of everything Hijack This found, copy and paste it back here.

OTM doesn't scan? once you paste it what my instructions say, then hit MoveIt!, it moves the selected folders within seconds.

We can remove OTMoveIt now.

  • Please double-click OTM.exe to run it again.
  • Press the green CleanUp! button.
  • Press Yes cleanup process prompt, do the same for the reboot prompt.
How is the machine running now?

Hello Belahzur,
Thank you so much for your assistance. I am so grateful. I noticed that after moving the folders to Moveit yesterday the speed of my system increased. Before now it was extremely slow. Again the blue screen nuisance had completely disappeared. Thank you so much. Meanwhile, after the cleaning it reported successful but there was a single folder that it reported clean up failed. Can that have any effect?
Thank you oncemore for your assistance.

No, it wont cause any problems. I don't think it was a folder, when the CleanUp! routine is run, it removes everything apart from OTM.exe which is removed on reboot.
