Why won't Windows Online Care won't work with Windows 7

Post by MrMario on Mon Aug 17, 2009 4:52 pm

Does anyone know why Windows Online Care will not be supportive by Windows 7? If I can get a link at Microsoft page that would be great.

Hello,

What are the signs of it not working?

If Windows Online Care is open, exit it now. Right click the shortcut of Windows Online Care and select Properties.

Go to the Compatibility tab and check the Run this program in compatibility mode option. Select Vista from the drop down list and click OK.

Try running it again.

I just read this page and it doesn't have Windows Online Care on the list is there any plans to have it supportive on windows 7?

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/antivirus-partners/windows-7.aspx

Would hate to know that I can't use and that I just wasted $30 on it.

Hello,

Are you referring to Windows Live OneCare?

Microsoft is advising users to completely uninstall Windows Live OneCare prior to upgrading to Windows 7. No word yet from the company whether it plans to introduce Windows 7 support, but such a scenario is highly unlikely, seeing as OneCare is a case of a "dead antivirus walking." Back in November 2008, Microsoft announced that it was discontinuing OneCare as of mid-2009, and that it would introduce a free security offering, codenamed Morro in its place.

What is the exact problem you have here? Does the software not work properly? If you are unable to run the setup, run the following from an elevated command prompt the following to disable the Client Experience code that interferes with the installation:

Code:
reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions /va /f
