Hello.

  • Open HijackThis
  • Choose "Do a system scan only"
  • Check the boxes in front of these lines:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [16310464] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\16310464\16310464.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Monopod] C:\DOCUME~1\user1\LOCALS~1\Temp\b.exe
    O18 - Protocol: qbwc - {FC598A64-626C-4447-85B8-53150405FD57} - mscoree.dll (file missing)

  • Press "Fix Checked"
  • Close Hijack This.

Please download and run this tool.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Post the contents of the MBAM Log.

Update

Post by patmac on Mon Aug 10, 2009 1:13 am

O.K. knock on wood I think we beat this thing down. I read in a previous post where you advised the poster to run scan only with the highjack this tool and check and fix a line similar to this: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [16310464] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\16310464\16310464.exe

Now although the numbers were different, it was basically the same thing. I decided to take a chance and check and fix this line. Upon doing so I saw immidiate improvement. Pop ups stopped, was able to access internet and run various programs. I was then able to update Malwarebytes to the latest version and perform quick scan. It resulted in the following:

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.40
Database version: 2587
Windows 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3

As of this moment all is running smoothly.

I cannot thank you enough. I am adding to my favorites and will do all I can to recommend this site and spread the word to everyone know.

I will re-post should I spiral back down through the gates of hell called System Security...

Well darn I didn't see your reply before I re-posted. After reading your reply I re-ran highjack this and looked for the following lines:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Monopod] C:\DOCUME~1\user1\LOCALS~1\Temp\b.exe
O18 - Protocol: qbwc - {FC598A64-626C-4447-85B8-53150405FD57} - mscoree.dll (file missing)

They are no longer there. I can't help but think they were picked off by the Malwarebytes scan.

Thanks for the quick response and again thanks for your expertise. You are doing a great service...

Post by Belahzur on Mon Aug 10, 2009 1:41 am

Hello.
There is a rootkit present, it's not gone yet.
Hello.

  • Download combofix from here
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

    1. If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:

    * Tools->Options->Main tab
    * Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".

    2. During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

    3. It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.
    4. Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.
    5. Close any open browsers.
    6. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

  • We need to disable your local AV (Anti-virus) before running Combofix.
  • See [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] for how to disable your AV.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe.
  • Follow the prompts. NOTE:
  • ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.
***It's strongly recommended to have the Recovery Console installed before doing any malware removal.***

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will automatically proceed with its scan.

  • The Recovery Console provides a recovery/repair mode should a problem occur during a Combofix run.

  • Allow ComboFix to download the Recovery Console.
  • Accept the End-User License Agreement.
  • The Recovery Console will be installed.
  • You will then get this next prompt that asks if you want to continue the malware scan, select yes

  • Allow combofix to run
  • Post C:\combofix.txt back here.

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Hello.
Nearly done now.

  • Open HijackThis.
  • When Hijack This opens, click "Open the Misc Tools section"
  • Then select "Open Uninstall Manager"
  • Click on "Save List..." (generates uninstall_list.txt)
  • Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

Re: System Security infection/ Have included highjack this log

Post by Belahzur on Tue Aug 11, 2009 1:41 pm

Hello.

I see that you are running Limewire.
P2P(Peer to peer) applications are designed to help you easily share and distribute files between you and a group of people. But they can also be used to distribute malware, and thus are not considered safe.
The removal of these programs is optional, but highly recommended.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs.

    BitZipper 5.1
    Java(TM) 6 Update 7
    LimeWire 4.18.3

Now open a new notepad file.
Input this into the notepad file:

Folder::
c:\docume~1\ALLUSE~1\APPLIC~1\16310464
c:\documents and settings\user1\Application Data\uTorrent
c:\documents and settings\user1\Application Data\LimeWire
c:\Program Files\LimeWire
c:\Program Files\uTorrent

Driver::
bonnqeuc

Save this as CFScript.txt, save it to your desktop also.
Then drag and drop CFScript.txt into combofix as seen below:

This will open combofix again, agree to it's terms and allow it to run.
It may want to reboot after it's done. (It will warn you if it wants to)
Post the resulting log back here.
