Post by Evil Dead on 16th January 2008, 7:13 pm

Hi friends, I'm tired of my CPU topping out all the time so I want to upgrade it. But I would like too know what is best for my setup? Or the best CPU period? because I think this computer is limited in what I can get.

Here is my rig setup:

Dell Dimension E520

* Intel Pentium D 3.0GHz 920 Dual Core Processor with 4MB L2 Cache Socket LGA775

* Motherboard: Dell Inc 0WG864

* 3GB PC2-4200 DDR2 Memory

* 320GB Western Digital 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive

* 80GB Western Digital 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive

* 16x DVD ROM/CD Burner

* 19x LG Super Multi DVD/CD Rewriter

* All'N'One Card Reader

* NVIDIA GeForce 7600GS Ultra2 Graphics Card with 512MB DDR2 Turbo Cache

* Seven USB 2.0 Ports

* Windows XP Home

Solved Re: CPU INFO

Read this article here:

http://www.cpu-world.com/Sockets/Socket%20775%20(LGA775).html

Your motherboard is using quite a recent socket, if I'm not wrong it even supports quad-core Intel CPUs. I recommend upgrading to a Core 2 Duo CPU because of it power efficiency. But it is really your choice to what you want and depends on your budget.

Here's one I would recommend:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 HH80557PH0564M (BX80557E6600)

Browse through the page, you can see many CPUs with specific information.

One more thing, what's your PSU watt?

Good Luck 8)

ok, these are the two I think are good, but is there really any difference between them? I read that there's only a 10% change in the speed.

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6420 (2.13GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6600 {2.4GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)

Ok, now I searched awhile longer and found out I can run this:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Quad-Core Processor 2.40GHz, 8MB L2 Cache 1066MHz FSB

But do I need to get a higher watt power supply to run it or is mine fine?

the Q6600 quad core CPU uses about 95 watts, you most probably need a new power supply. You would be safe with 520 watts power supply unit. 8)
