Win32.Brontok

Post by sze92 on 23rd July 2009, 11:13 am

when i open mozilla or ie7 this would come out:
“Insecure Internet activity. Threat of virus attack
Due to insecure Internet browsing your PC can easily get infected with viruses, worms, and trojans without your knowledge, and that can lead to system slowdown, freezes, and crashes. Also insecure Internet activity can result in revealing your personal information. To get full advanced real time protection for PC and Internet activity, register Security Center. We recommend you to protect your PC now and continue safe Internet browsing.
Click here to get full advanced real-time protection and continue browsing.
Continue to this website unprotected (not recommended)“

and after a few mins some security center alert comes out
saying to block suspicious software name win32.Brontok and the 'keep blocking' button does not work. i've used avira, superantispyware and spybot-sd but it does not work at all. i am also a computer dummy so be precise on the steps. thanks so much !

Hello.
Spybot is causing the problem, you have TeaTimer running and it's blocking the change MBAM is trying to do.

While TeaTimer is normally a wonderful tool to protect against hijackers, it can also interfere with our fixes. So please disable TeaTimer by doing the following:
1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
You can reenable TeaTimer once your system is clean.

Please make sure Teatimer is disable before we do this, otherwise this fix will fail.

Update MBAM and re-run the scan. My bet is it wont come back this time.
