Solved Drivers and the Device Manager question

Post by derouenn on Tue Jul 14, 2009 5:15 pm

Question:
I have an HP DV6119 laptop and the wireless will not turn on. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver downloaded from the HP sight. I have reseated the card. The driver shows as installed in the Control Program Add/Remove Software list but it does not show in the Device Manager. I guess my question is what can keep it from being in the Device Manager if it is installed?

Solved Re: Drivers and the Device Manager question

Hello,

Some drivers are simply called a "driver" because it is required for the system to run, but not registered by the operating system as a driver, therefore it does not appear in device manager. So, Windows will read it as a software instead and list it under Add/Remove Programs.
