Another victim of Antivirus System Pro

Post by shreksdog on 8th July 2009, 8:20 am

Hi guys, I have been reading through some other threads, and seems each case is different, having said that I see that everyone has to run Hijack This, so I installed it in safe mode, then re-opened in normal mode and ran the scan. this is what I got... now what? Can anyone help me please? Oh, one other thing, I keep getting websites on Viagra and porno.org opening themselves up, even when I'm not connected to the net the windows open, they just come up as the usual can't show this page message... Is this all part of the same crapola bug? Or have I been unlucky/dumb enough to catch two bugs at once? Any help will be greatfully appreciated, I am currently unemployed and can't really afford a visit to the computer doctor...

HiJack notepad said this..

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
  • Double click DDS.scr to run.
  • When complete, two logs will open. Save both of the report to your Desktop.
  • Copy and paste DDS.txt back here, I don't need to see attach.txt.

Hello.

I see you have Viewpoint software installed.

Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". Read this article: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I suggest you remove the program now.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.

Java Runtime Enviroment 5 update 10
Java Runtime Enviroment 5 update 11
    Java(TM) 6 Update 11
    Viewpoint Manager (remove only)
    Viewpoint Media Player
    Viewpoint Toolbar

Please download the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTM.exe to run it.
  • Copy the bolded text below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose CopyCrying

    :files
    C:\nstpc.exe
    C:\a.bat
    c:\windows\system32\log.dll
    c:\program files\viewpoint
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\viewpoint

    :reg
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "dead pile"=-

  • Return to OTMoveIt, right click in the "Paste instructions for items to be Moved" window (under the light blue bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Please post the OTMoveIt log.

Hello.
Okay, this looks fine now, but I want one more scan to look at something that DDS showed.

Download [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Double-click Lop S&D.exe
Choose the language, then choose Option 1 (Search)
Wait till the end of the scan
Post the log which is created: (%SystemDrive%\lopR.txt)

Hello.
That found another infection. We need to run a new OTMoveIt script.

  • Please double-click OTM.exe to run it.
  • Copy the bolded text below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose CopyCrying

    :files
    C:\DOCUME~1\ALLUSE~1\APPLIC~1\Viewpoint
    C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\APPLIC~1\curb readme file
    C:\WINDOWS\tasks\B0F5399F9792AF8B.job
    C:\Program Files\curb readme file
    C:\Program Files\Adverts

    :commands
    [emptytemp]
    [reboot]

Something weird is happening. When I paste the instructions into OTM and hit the move it button everything disappears, except my wallpaper. The IE window goes, the OTM goes, even all icons, and task bars. I run task manager and it says no programs running... mouse moves, but there is nothing to click, just the wallpaper... what am I doing wrong?

Alright lets try a different approach:

1. If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:

* Tools->Options->Main tab
* Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".

2. During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

3. It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.
4. Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.
5. Close any open browsers.
6. We need to disable your local AV (Anti-virus) before running Combofix.

  • See [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] for how to disable your AV.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe.
  • Follow the prompts. NOTE:
  • Allow combofix to run
  • Post C:\combofix.txt back here.

    Note:
Do not mouse click combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Re: Another victim of Antivirus System Pro

Post by shreksdog on 9th July 2009, 2:20 am

I have struck a new problem, I ran combofix instead of saving it, therefore didn't change the name. when I realised I saved it and renamed it. now it's telling me it's partial corrupt and to reload another version, when i try to do that it won't replace the file because it says it is in use. I have small combofix boxes on the screen that wont disappear with green bars in them. I do however have the correct combo-fix icon on my desktop, but when I click it I just get the combofix box with the green bars?? I'm lost now... help!! what do I do now?

no it didn't it says something about part of the instalation being corrupt. and now I can't see the icon because it is covered with the boxes with the green bars. there are 3 combofix icons on my task bar that wont close and task manager doesn't see any application for them.

Click Start > Run and copy/paste the following bolded text into the Run box and click OK:

ComboFix /u

This will uninstall ComboFix, now download it again without renaming it:

  • Download combofix from here
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
  • We need to disable your local AV (Anti-virus) before running Combofix.
  • See [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] for how to disable your AV.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe.
  • Follow the prompts. NOTE:
  • ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.
***It's strongly recommended to have the Recovery Console installed before doing any malware removal.***

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will automatically proceed with its scan.

  • The Recovery Console provides a recovery/repair mode should a problem occur during a Combofix run.

  • Allow ComboFix to download the Recovery Console.
  • Accept the End-User License Agreement.
  • The Recovery Console will be installed.
  • You will then get this next prompt that asks if you want to continue the malware scan, select yes

  • Allow combofix to run
  • Post C:\combofix.txt back here.

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

now it's telling me that it can't find combofix.

Is combo-fix a background operation that wouldn't show up as an active application on task manager? is it running slowly in the background and i'm being too hasty?

Restart your computer and now see if you can download/run ComboFix.

Now open a new notepad file.
Input this into the notepad file:

Folder::
c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\Viewpoint

File::
c:\windows\system32\REN25.tmp
c:\windows\system32\REN24.tmp
c:\windows\system32\REN23.tmp

Save this as CFScript.txt, save it to your desktop also.
Then drag and drop CFScript.txt into combofix as seen below:

This will open combofix again, agree to it's terms and allow it to run.
It may want to reboot after it's done. (It will warn you if it wants to)
Post the resulting log back here.

Please download and run this tool.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Post the contents of the MBAM Log.

Hi again, No, I only have the free version of AVG, and I think defender was on the comp with XP when I got it, but I don't think defender is working, when I boot the comp each time it has a message saying "Application failed to initialize:0x800106ba. A problem caused Windows Defender Service to stop. To start the service, restart your computer or search help and support on how to start a service manually"

Uninstall Windows Defender then, probably corrupted from the malware.
