System Security. I can't to absolutely anything.

Post by x3princesselle on 2nd July 2009, 7:44 pm

Yesterday I was infected with the System Security Virus. It somehow got past my McAfee Security and turned it off.

When it first happened, it took forever for the computer to load back up once turned on. But before all the icons and start menu showed, I could use ctrl+alt+dlt to make my task manager pop up. From there I clicked start new task, then browse, and opened up my malwarebytes program. After the millionth time trying it, it finally finished the scan without freezing and I was able to click delete. It finished the deleting process. Found MANY infected files. Then a message came up stating I had to restart my computer for the rest of the files to be deleted. I restarted my computer.

However, this time when I rebooted it, it didn't take long to reboot at all. It did it very fast and everything loaded right away. Exept I still cannot do anything.

I can't even get my task manager up. I can't boot in safe mood. I get the blue screen of death and it disappears in a mili-second & restarts itself all over again. I can't click anything, because absolutely nothing happens. When I put my mouse to the start menu it changed to an hour glass every single time.

It seems as if the only thing i can access is the settings that you can go to by f8 and f12 before you actually boot up the computer.

What are my options??!?!

Please download Ice Sword from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

  1. Download the zip to your desktop and extract it.
  2. Open the Ice Sword folder and then launch IceSword.exe.
  3. Then look in the left hand bottom of the program and press "Registry"
  4. When the registry list opens, drag the line between the two windows so you can see which registry hive you need.
  5. Next, open the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, and navigate to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\fake-key

  6. Once you find that key, right click the key and press "Delete"

I'm in the same situation (can't run most programs, can't start in safe mode). I downloaded icesword but cannot extract the file. Tried to rename, but still can't do anything with it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I just now got my task manager to come up. With that I could open my registry editor.
However, I don't know what registries to delete.. I don't want to mess up my computer.

That has to be the only place left for the problem to be right?
Since I ran the other program already and delete around 70 something infected files.
Some reason it seems worse since I ran it ..Its hard to get my task manager up.

Hello.

Open the registry editor and look under the Run key.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Is there maybe one or two run values that are just numbers?

Well.. I could try that if I just happen to be able to get tas' manager to open again. I'm unsure when that will be and once I do its a very difficult thing to deal with because it freezes or disapears randomly.

Is there anything I can do from the boot menus? Ugh what are some other options?

When I say I can't do anything, I seriously mean anything! Nothing! I can't download anything. I can't click anything. Absolutely nothing opens when I click it. I can't even get task manager to open anymore!

Hello.
You may need to use a USB stick to transfer tools from. I have uploaded Hijack This with a renamed name, so see if this will work.
