Incorrectly configured network card problem...

Post by fsu4ever on Mon Jun 29, 2009 1:57 am

Hello,

I'm a newbie and am feeling pretty worn out right now from dealing with this issue. What originally took place was that Antivirus System Pro was installed on my computer. I was successful in removing the virus after using Malwarebytes but when I restarted the computer, my internet would not connect and I kept receiving the network card was incorrectly configured error. I am able to get on the internet through secure sites, on MSN messenger, as well as in safe mode with networking; however, I am not able to access the internet on unsecure sites. What I am assuming is that I am having a firewall issue that cannot resolve because perhaps something from the original bug was left on. I'm not computer literate by any stretch of the means but I have attempted to do everything to correct the problem that I can find. I picked your forum because you all seem to be very quick with your responses as well as extremely knowledgeable. I was able to run Hijackthis and here is the log from that. I would appreciate any feedback that you might have to offer and would be forever grateful if you were able to assist me.

THANKS!

  • Please download DDS by sUBs to your Desktop (Important!!) from one of these locations:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
  • Double click DDS.scr to run.
  • When complete, two logs will open. Save both of the report to your Desktop.
  • Copy and paste DDS.txt back here, I don't need to see attach.txt.

Re: Incorrectly configured network card problem...

Post by Belahzur on Mon Jun 29, 2009 11:37 pm

Hello.
DDS shows another infection we need to deal with.

  • Download combofix from here
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

    1. If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:

    * Tools->Options->Main tab
    * Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".

    2. During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

    3. It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.
    4. Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.
    5. Close any open browsers.
    6. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

  • We need to disable your local AV (Anti-virus) before running Combofix.
  • See [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] for how to disable your AV. (AVG8)
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe.
  • Follow the prompts. NOTE:
  • ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.
***It's strongly recommended to have the Recovery Console installed before doing any malware removal.***

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will automatically proceed with its scan.

  • The Recovery Console provides a recovery/repair mode should a problem occur during a Combofix run.

  • Allow ComboFix to download the Recovery Console.
  • Accept the End-User License Agreement.
  • The Recovery Console will be installed.
  • You will then get this next prompt that asks if you want to continue the malware scan, select yes

  • Allow combofix to run
  • Post C:\combofix.txt back here.

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] - Please PM me if I fail to respond within 24hrs.

Re: Incorrectly configured network card problem...

Post by Belahzur on Tue Jun 30, 2009 8:27 am

Hello.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs.

    Java(TM) 6 Update 5
    Java(TM) 6 Update 7

Now open a new notepad file.
Input this into the notepad file:

Folder::
c:\program files\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0012-ABCDEFFEDCBA}
c:\program files\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0014-ABCDEFFEDCBA}

Save this as CFScript.txt, save it to your desktop also.
Then drag and drop CFScript.txt into combofix as seen below:

This will open combofix again, agree to it's terms and allow it to run.
It may want to reboot after it's done. (It will warn you if it wants to)
Post the resulting log back here.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following program.

    Java(TM) 6 Update 13

Click Start > Run and copy/paste the following bolded text into the Run box and click OK:

ComboFix /u

This will also reset your restore points.

How is the machine running now?

It seems to be running okay. You guys are just awesome and I just can't thank you enough. We will be working on getting my daughter's laptop information posted as soon as we can so hopefully you will be able to help me get that one going also. Be on the lookout for a big donation from us!!! I really can't thank you enough.

Hello.
Thank you. Smile In the mean time, I need you to install the newest version of Java for this machine.

Updating Java:

  • Download the latest version of [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].
  • Select the first option where it says "This release is Windows 7 support-ready and includes support for Internet Explorer 8...".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • In the Window that opens, select your platform and language, check the "agree" box, and click Continue.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u14-windows-i586-p.exe that you downloaded to install the newest version.

Re: Incorrectly configured network card problem...

Post by fsu4ever on Tue Jun 30, 2009 9:09 pm

Hey again,

I had to run some errands and when I left the computer was running great. I had turned it off, came back and turned it on, and now it has all these wacked out lines running through the monitor, the monitor is flickering, and it completely froze up. When it restarted, it went to the screen for starting in safe mode, safe mode with networking, etc. It said that windows did not start correctly. Could this problem be related to what is going on with the system in general or something different?

It seems okay for right now so I am going to go ahead with the Java update. Also, I had previously used AVG, is there another antivirus program that works better than AVG?

If it's fine now, see if it happens again, could just be a random thing.
AVG is good, keep that. Smile

Re: Incorrectly configured network card problem...

Post by fsu4ever on Fri Jul 10, 2009 2:42 am

Hello... This is a new problem (old problem) that I mentioned in the last couple of posts of mine. It started with the problem of random lines running through the screen and now it has gotten to where it is freezing on start up. It will start up normally but on the right hand side of the screen it has four weird lines, that usually come up red, but might change to a green color later on in start up. The computer will continue on in start up but after the Windows XP screen comes up with the little bar, it goes to a black page and won't go any further and I have to turn it off with the button. Then when I go into safe mode, it still has the lines and when it's asking you about safe mode, some of the letters are messed up where the lines normally would be. Before it was doing this, but it would freeze on the desktop screen and I'd have to turn it on, but when I turned it back on, it would work fine. I honestly don't know what to do. I've tried reinstalling a driver and still, nothing.

By the way, I had put this post originally in the hardware problem but then remembered that I had mentioned it on this thread so please delete the hardware post. TIA!

Re: Incorrectly configured network card problem...

The screen might be on it's way out then if it's got lines going through it and making this fuzzy, not much we can do about that. If it's a Desktop machine, try a different monitor, if it's a laptop, then we probably can't do anything.

Re: Incorrectly configured network card problem...

It's a desktop. It's happening on all monitors that I have tried. I'm running an old computer right now on the same monitor that was hooked up to the other machine and I haven't had a single problem with it.
