Is Spyware Doctor Spyware Behind Rouge AVs?

Post by xpreetzo on Thu Jun 25, 2009 4:34 am

Just want to know what the experts here think... I see many malware removal blogs which teach other people how to remove rouge antivirus and almost all of them asks to download spyware doctor which never works!

The only sites which guides work are on GeekPolice, Bleeping Computer and My Anti Apyware. The rest I've seen are either false info or copied from bleepingcomputer... I also find it strange that why all the malware blogs like 2spyware, 411spyware, spywarevoid, removaltool, etc etc. would want to ask users to download spyware doctor, there's no affiliate link behind all this... it just seems as though spyware doctor company is the one behind all this rouge AV rubbish... or they are just trying to set themselves a bad reputation.

I've also been noticing this for a while, a couple of months back.

According to Grinler from BC, the posters earn commission when people download Spyware Doctor. So, I don't think PC Tools are behind this. And I'm also not sure about the commission because their downloads to Spyware Doctor does not have affiliate links.

Another 2 softwares like Spyware Doctor are Xoftspy and Spyhunter. It's clearly nonsense because these softwares only scan your computers and do not remove anything, so you have to pay to remove the infections.

So yeah, I know only 3 sites so far wants to really fight back malware with our working guides, which is why we use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. It's free and works most of the time. (There's one more website - NoVirusThanks, they make their own tool; NVT to remove these, But not sure if it actually works)

What I'm furious about is that those fake removal guides gets listed on Google results above us most of the time, so the infected people end up buying Spyware Doctor or the rouge AV in desperation maybe even ending up formatting their PC. Right now, I'm trying my best to make GeekPolice on top of every search with a rouge AV product.

Good to see you guys doing the right thing. Smile

Some sites like 411-spyware copy so many things from Bleeping Computer:

I used Spyware doctor over the years and it did work well but you are better off with Malwarebytes.
