Personal Antivirus help-- nothing's working

Post by Caylabearr on Tue Jun 23, 2009 7:43 pm

Yesterday, i found that Personal Antivirus downloaded onto my computer by itself. I've been trying all day to remove and have had no luck. I have downloaded Malwarebytes and Superantispyware and niether have removed it. I scanned both in Safe mode and in regular and it hasn't worked. Also i have AVG and it hasn't picked up anything but a few tracking cookies that i removed. I downloaded STOPzilla near the beginning of my search and started the scan and it pick up the Personal Antivirus but after researching it i decided to remove it becausee i heard it wasn't any good. I have also downloaded Adware Pro and it picked it up but wouldn't cure it till i purchased it. Finally i tried these instructions I found where you go to run and type in "regedit" and you click on all these buttons but when i got to the final step i couldn't find the code that it said to delete. I have no idea what else to do. I need some help, and i really dont have the money right now to go to a computer place and get them to fix it. So please i would really appreciate it if you could help me.

Thanks in advance,
Cayla

Please download the current version of HijackThis from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

  • Double click and run the installer.
  • It will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\hijackthis.exe
  • After installing, you should get the user agreement, press accept and Hijack This will run.
  • Select Do a system scan and save a log file. This will open a notepad file of everything Hijack This found, copy and paste it back here.

Hello.

  • Open HijackThis
  • Choose "Do a system scan only"
  • Check the boxes in front of these lines:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PersonalAV] C:\Program Files\PersonalAV\pav.exe

  • Press "Fix Checked"
  • Close Hijack This.

Please download and run this tool.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Post the contents of the MBAM Log.

Re: Personal Antivirus help-- nothing's working

Post by Caylabearr on Wed Jun 24, 2009 7:56 pm

OKay, So like i said at the end of my last post the Personal ANtivirus isn't popping up anymore but i'm not totally sure if its gone. I downloaded a few different spyware and such last night and it kept picking it up but i couldn't remove it until i purchased it. So i'm not sure if its still in there or not. I went to Hijack This again and ran the scan but the file you said to delete wasn't there this time. So i ran Malwarebytes again and it didn't pick anything up. Is it hiding somewhere or is it gone? because i haven't really done anything to get rid of it. The last time i ran malware it picked up a lot of rogue things and it quaritined it and then i ran AVG and personal antivirus disappeared. SO i'm not sure. I just didn't know how safe it is to pay bills and stuff when i'm not totally sure its gone for good.

what should i do now..

It should be gone now, but lets make sure.

  • Please download DDS by sUBs to your Desktop (Important!!) from one of these locations:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
  • Double click DDS.scr to run.
  • When complete, two logs will open. Save both of the report to your Desktop.
  • Copy and paste DDS.txt back here, I don't need to see attach.txt.

Post by Belahzur on Fri Jun 26, 2009 12:00 am

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop
Link: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] or [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

  • Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
  • Extract avenger.exe to your desktop
2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+CCrying

Folders to delete:
c:\program files\common files\Uninstall
c:\program files\PersonalAV

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.

  • Under "Input script here:", paste in the script from the quote box above.
  • Leave the ticked box "Scan for rootkit" ticked.
  • Then tick "Disable any rootkits found"
  • Now click on the Execute to begin execution of the script.
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.

The Avenger will automatically do the following:

  • It will Restart your computer.
  • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avengerís actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
4. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply.
