Recommendations on ad aware and anti virus programs.

Post by alan60 on Fri Jun 19, 2009 12:57 pm

Can you guys give me your recommendations on what ad aware and anti virus programs are best for my computer? Home use computers.

I have three computers in my home. They are used to do email, browse internet, and store photos.

#1. HP Windows XP 512 mgs of ram. 1 mg processor. This is the one I use. Works great.
#2. Dell 530 Windows XP 2 gbs of ram. My wife’s computer.
#3. E-machine windows XP 1 gb of ram my daughters.

I currently have installed the following:
All are using Firefox as browser
All are using Thunderbird and Netscape 7.2 for e-mail
Spybot search and destroy
Ad aware anniversary edition
AVG antivirus
CCleaner

I at one time had spy blaster but uninstalled this program. It seemed to be doing what the others were doing. I appreciate any recommendations you guys might have.

Thanks,
Alan

AVG and Avast are the good freebies.Spyblaster is a good program for internet explorer.I notice you have two anti-spyware

Spybot search and destroy
Ad aware anniversary edition

You might want to choose one to lighten your "machine"

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware would be a good choice for an antispyware too.

Other than that, I think you have a good PC set up. Avira is also another good antivirus software.
