Post by Belahzur on 20th June 2009, 7:53 pm

Now open a new notepad file.
Input this into the notepad file:

KILLALL::

File::
c:\windows\010112010146118114.dat
C:\487656.bat
c:\windows\system32\RENF.tmp
c:\windows\system32\REN11.tmp
c:\windows\system32\REN10.tmp

Driver::
umfdygjkkuof
zjdcyp

Registry::
[HKLM\~\services\sharedaccess\parameters\firewallpolicy\standardprofile\GloballyOpenPorts\List]
"8085:TCP"=-

Save this as CFScript.txt, save it to your desktop also.
Then drag and drop CFScript.txt into combofix as seen below:

This will open combofix again, agree to it's terms and allow it to run.
It may want to reboot after it's done. (It will warn you if it wants to)
Post the resulting log back here.

Click Start > Run and copy/paste the following bolded text into the Run box and click OK:

ComboFix /u

This will also reset your restore points.

How is the machine running now?

Do you mean that the computer does not find ComboFix?

Much better, still a little slow. Firefox takes about a minute and a half to load. Which is better, but not as quick as it was before. I also don't seem to have any sound. Do you think the virus is now gone? I would really like to get some advice on programs I can remove and how to optimize my computer's performance. Also, what security anti-virus is the best to use. Thank you.

Things still seem slow. I'm using Firefox but I get a message that I have no firewall. The message also says AVG is turned off.

Yes, because we disabled it for the Combofix run.
Re-enable it now. Smile

  • Open HijackThis
  • Choose "Do a system scan only"
  • Check the boxes in front of these lines:

I did all that and it seemed to work fine. I also re-enabled AVG. I also ran MBAM again and it found no infections. Any idea what might have happened to my sound. Should I keep and use Registry Repair or is that not good. What else do you recommend? Is there another forum I should use to try to clean/speed up my computer. Thank you very much for all your help. I will definitely be visiting the donation section of geekpolice. Thank You!

Hello.

Don't use registry cleaners, because if they delete a needed system key, your OS will fail to work ever again.

We've killed what might be causing some slowness, so anything else that is slow could be down to low end hardware. If it is hardware, then you'll need to get more memory/RAM, etc.

So, of course, I used the Registry Repair Wizard I have and "fixed" like 88 things before I got your answer not to use registry cleaners. Now my computer is very slow again and when it closes windows it does it slowly and one line at a time. Here is the latest HijackThis log. I will uninstall my registry cleaner while I await your reply. Thank you.

Also, the bad thing about registry cleaners is they don't make backups, so you've probably damaged your OS now, and I can't fix it.

A format would be the best solution right now.

So, my computer is really slow again. Would you please look over my highjackthis and let me know what you might suggest? I also still have no sound.

Hello.
A few things need to run at startup, because they are part of your hardware, otherwise some parts will fail to work.

  • Open HijackThis
  • Choose "Do a system scan only"
  • Check the boxes in front of these lines:

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: avgrsstarter - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\avgrsstx.dll
    O23 - Service: InstallDriver Table Manager (IDriverT) - Macrovision Corporation - C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver\11\Intel 32\IDriverT.exe
    O23 - Service: iPod Service - Apple Inc. - C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe

  • Press "Fix Checked"
  • Close Hijack This.

Download [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browser, do this also:

  • Click Firefox at the top and choose Select All from the list.
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • NOTE : If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browser, do this also:

  • Click Opera at the top and choose Select All from the list.
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • NOTE : If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

That is about all I can do now. Smile

This may be due to a driver that got disabled, please do the following:

Go to start-->right click on my computer-->navigate to the hardware tab-->click on device manager-->Check to see if you have any yellow exclamation marks, if so name them all in your next post.

Re: Virus

Post by Origin on 3rd July 2009, 1:57 am

Glad to hear your problems are solved Smile

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer in order to prevent future malware infections. Please take these recommendations seriously; these few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems. As happy as we are to help you, for your sake we would rather not have repeat customers. Goofy

1) Please navigate to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and download all the "critical updates" for Windows. This can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer.

Please either enable Automatic Updates under Start -> Control Panel -> Automatic Updates , or get into the habit of checking for Windows updates regularly. I cannot stress enough how important this is.

2) In order to protect yourself against spyware, you should consider installing and running the following free programs:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
A tutorial on using Ad-Aware to remove spyware from your computer may be found [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
A tutorial on using Spybot to remove spyware from your computer may be found [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. Please also remember to enable Spybot's "Immunize" and "TeaTimer" features.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
A tutorial on using SpywareGuard for realtime protection against spyware and hijackers may be found [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

Make sure to keep these programs up-to-date and to run them regularly, as this can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle.

3) Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in popup blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from here:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
I also recommand the following add-ons for Firefox, they will help keep you safe from malicious scripts or activeX exploits.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

4) Also make sure to run your antivirus software regularly, and to keep it up-to-date.

To help you keep your software updated, please considering using this free software program that will check for program updates.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

5) Finally, consider maintaining a firewall. Some good free firewalls are [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], or

A tutorial on understanding and using firewalls may be found [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

Please also read Tony Klein's excellent article: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

If you would take a moment to fill out our feedback form, we would appreciate it.

Spybot/Ad-aware do a paid for version where it gives extra protection, but I don't recommend them.

Hello:

I did most of the things you recommended in July and things seemed to be going well. I had the Sunbelt firewall working fine. However, recently it stopped working I think it wanted me to buy the better version. I ended up uninstalling it and loaded Comodo which was a mistake. It just took me about an hour to check my wife in for her flight tomorrow. So I uninstalled comodo now everything seems to work OK but is slow. What firewall do you now recommend and what can I do to speed things up. I would love to have you check out what I have and have you advise me what to do. What can I eliminate? I still seem to have a lot of stuff I don't need. I look forward to any advice you can give me.
