windows games on linux ubuntu 9.10 (karmic)
i would like to play my computer games on a computer running Ubuntu 9.10 (karmic). I finally got rid of microsoft windows xp and instead now have a linux based system. About the only thing I still need to get working is my computer games. I have a large number of games that I would very much like to play. I read somewhere about a software that would allow me to run these games on linux instead of windows xp but I can't find it now that I'm ready to work on this.
Can anyone help me with this?

Hello I am pleased to report that I have found a way to run windows software on linux. The software is called Wine and it is free to download and use. It seems to work pretty good so far.

Ok but be aware that it will run your programs much slower and may have certain risks...

yes but it will run slower anyway because it is using an emulator. No matter what he run it will run slower. This same effect occurs when using DOSBOX , the emulator for old dos programs which simply dont run these days. Go here to find out more if you like : http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/Main_Page
The best thing about dos games is that most of them are now free (legally) since their developers have abandoned the software and do not support it anymore.
I am sure that this effect occurs with other emulators since dosbox is surprisingly slow (try carmagedon and get something like 10 fps using a pentium 4 processor like me...)
