Using Malwarebytes to Remove Malware

Post by Doctor Inferno on Tue 07 Apr 2009, 3:14 am

Guide Overview

This guide provides you instructions with screenshots on how to use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to remove virus/spyware/trojans/other malware and fake security softwares.

If infected, please follow these instructions to continue:

1. Please download this removal tool: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

2. Install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware by double clicking on mbam-setup

3. Follow the prompts. Make sure that Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware are checked. Then click finish.

4. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware will automatically update itself after the installation, click the OK button to close that box and you will now be at the main program Window as shown below.

If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware with the latest database. Make sure that Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is closed before installing the update.

5. Close All opened Windows, Programs, File or Folders.

6. Make sure you are on the Scanner tab. Select Perform quick scan then click the Scan button as shown below.

7. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware will now start scanning your computer for infected files as shown below.

8. When the scan is finished a message box will appear, click OK to continue.

9. Click Show Results.

10. You will now be presented with a screen showing you the malware infections like shown below. Yours may look different depending on the infection you have.

11. Click on Remove selected.

12. When removing the files, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware may require you to restart the computer in order to do a complete removal. If it displays a message stating that it needs to restart, click Yes.

13. After that you can close the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware window, your computer is now cleaned from the malware infection.

To protect and prevent your computer from experiencing future threats like this, you may want to consider purchasing the Pro version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware with real-time protection from this link.

Hello,

The link works fine for me. There is probably a malware blocking you from downloading. Please read this: http://www.geekpolice.net/-t3821.htm

Hello,
I just wanted to say thanks. I had the blue screen with the red letters "YOUR'RE COMPUTER HAS BEEN INFECTED, etc. I went to many sites and read a crap load before calling my computer guru (my nephew) only to get his voicemail. Then I came here. Dloaded the exe., installed, and ran it, and now the b**** is gone. Well Done!!!! Now when he returns my call, I get to tell him nevermind, it's taken care of. With credit given, of course. Thanks again.

One thing tho. Now whenever I right click on something a Windows installer balloon appears saying "Preparing to install", then after 3 or 4 seconds it disappears. This isn't a deal breaker for me, but if anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, at first it was trying to install Symantic Antivirus, but that isn't showing up anymore.

One more thing. I am remote desktopping into the infected cp.

Any ideas on how to re-enable "boot into safe mode"? The malware has apparently disabled that ability on this machine (Win xp pro x32). F8 does absolutely nothing.

downloading problems

Post by fahrside on Wed 16 Sep 2009, 3:36 pm

I can't download any updates or the hijack software, nor can I open the Malware removal download. I was able to get Spyware Dr. loaded and running but it isn't picking up all of the malware. Am I totally screwed on this?

NO removal success....got answer??

Post by ChikTzr on Sat 21 Nov 2009, 1:40 pm

11/21/09
First, I performed the removal procedure from
[link removed -Doctor Inferno]

Did not find anything in the registry or running processes listed via Task Manager.

Found this site...and I
Downloaded the mbam-setup.exe to flash drive.
Put the vista laptop in safemode with networking. Installed flash drive to install mbam-setup.exe.

Since the virus disabled the internet connection or disabled the browser from connecting to the internet, mbam was not able to update.

So I ran the mbam and found 2 infected files. Removed the files.
But was still not able to connect to internet. With no other option at the moment, I restarted the CPU in normal mode.

AntiVirus System Pro did not go away.

Please help.

I am so greatful to the geek police for saving me. My computer was held hostage by the damn Antivirus Live the whole weekend. I surfed on another computer for hours to find a solution. I followed many directives and advises..i was welling to buy anything ,no matter the cost to kill the damn thing. Nothing would work, since the monster controlled everything, windows, zonealarm, internet explorer, all the drives , even the searching tools. It wouldn't let me install a software to kill it.
I can speak upto 7 languages fluently, i think of my self fairly intelligent, but this made me feel like a complete idiot. To feel invaded and helpless and raged, a horrible feeling.
I am never letting my nephew go near my computer again.
So as we say in Norway; Tusen hjertlig takk. (1000 Heartfelt Thanks).
Keep the good work. love you guys.
