CCleaner

One of the great freeware programs available today is a handy little app called CCleaner (Crap Cleaner).

CCleaner has the ability to get rid of any Unused programs, old cache's, temp files, and extraneous Registry entries which all add up to bog your system down!

You will see this app referred to often around GeekPolice as it is recommended for use within the 'Computer Maintenance' thread at the 'Software forum' and also within 'Malware Removal'. Its very useful in helping to cleanup any Malware that may have infected, and are hiding in your tempory files, cookies and index.dat

I just downloade this. It is quite a good software and i haven't had any problems so far.

i have used it for some tme now and never had the need to complain.

Seems cool but has a registry cleaner which I thought you guys were completely against.

Since hanging around here at GeekPolice, I came to understand that CCleaner was "a good thing" ((c) Martha Steward). So, I read the tutorial and all the litterature and warnings and maybe I missed somewhere something, but I knew I had to check or uncheck one of the boxes in order to keep all my saved passwords. I still think I did take care of that, but it was not to be.

I spend last evening about 4 hrs on the phone with my ISP tech support to have my internet access restored.

From a 100GB hard drive that was half full/half empty, I removed 1.5GB of junk, wich is probably 10 X more than I remove when doing my monthly cleaning with MS Disc Cleanup. Only wanted to warn the membership about the possible 4 hrs of mental anguish, unusable pain & suffering, gray hair gained and youth lost.

I would appreciate to hear from any of the moderators or tech staff what could have gone wrong or what might have changed since the tutorial was written. Thanks.



PS: I did clean the registry; contained 260 empty files (or placeholders?) of no longer existing content. Does that make sense?

Piriform CC Cleaner works better than that of many other registry/other unwanted crap that bulks up. Highly recommended for those that want their computer to run fast again, or have problems. I also recommend the program that they build, Piriform Defraggler.
